I wanted to take the time to give you a little more background on how etico came to be.

It wasn’t something we’d always planned. In fact it was more of a spur of the moment decision when we needed something new and exciting to focus on.

And here’s why.

2020 was supposed to be a huge year for us, and I suppose it still is, but for different reasons.

Café surfing in Ostuni in 2019, planning for the wedding 💻

You see, we’d spent the past 18 months planning our dream wedding in Italy.

It was to be followed by a 4-week honeymoon backpacking through Vietnam and on to Bali. Backpacking might not be everyone’s idea of romance but to us it was an adventure of a lifetime.

We’d spent hours and hours researching and planning and booking everything. If you’ve ever planned a wedding then you know, and if you haven’t, trust me, it’s a lot of work!

Noah was packed & ready to go…

We were just hours away from flying to Italy to meet our suppliers to iron out the final touches.

And then BAM! Italy goes into national lockdown.

Two days later, a pandemic is declared. No one’s getting married, and no one’s travelling.

I won’t lie, there were tears and many sleepless nights. Everything was so uncertain, and we were keeping everything on hold just in case we could go ahead with our plans. But eventually we had to make the difficult decision to call it off 😢

While I wanted to wallow and feel sorry for us a while longer, my ever-practical best bud saw an opportunity 💡

Instead of sitting around moping, he got to thinking what we could do instead.

Could we create something meaningful with the extra time we’d been given? Something new and exciting for us to focus on.

Mark’s background is in marketing and he’s worked with lots of e-commerce businesses, so he knows a thing or two about how to set these things up 🤓

Both being passionate vegans we loved the idea of championing veganism and vegan brands 🌱

We know what it’s like shopping for goods online, scrolling through the ingredients and doing research on brands to make sure we’re buying something that 100% lives up to our vegan standards. It can be a pain in the butt 😩 and we knew there had to be an easier way.

There is. We named it etico 😌

So although this year did not get off to the start we had planned, we’ve certainly made the most of it and turned it around for ourselves.

With a little luck and your support, it may still be a big year after all.
